There are over 40 million refugees globally and 44% of them are unable to speak the same language as the people trying to help them. Language barriers block access to important information and essential services, including medical, legal, psycho-social and educational services.

Tarjimly uses AI to connect humanitarian workers with interpreters who translate instantaneously. The app is available on a freemium basis and is typically being used in situations such as health checks and legal procedures. Most of the interpretation sessions are performed by volunteers worldwide and the rest by paid refugees. The venture ranks interpreters based on the number and type of in-app trainings performed, the humanitarian organizations’ feedback, and the number of interpretation sessions delivered. Better ranked interpreters are assigned to more critical translation situations (which is currently self-assessed by users at the point they request a translation).

In 2023 alone, the venture reached an estimated 167,320 refugees and immigrants with 41,830 interpretation sessions for critical support including resettlement (38%), medical (18%) and education (11%) services. Tarjimly is looking to expand their partnerships with NGOs and governments, with a particular focus on Europe, and increase their earned revenue to achieve long-term financial sustainability. 

The platform creates income generation for the paid translators, including refugees,  estimated at US$ 6,000 per year per translator. Tarjimly aims to deliver over 330,000 sessions in 2026, with 25,000 volunteer translators and 220 employed refugee translators.
