The problem
With a population of over 214 million, Brazil has one of the world’s largest public healthcare systems. However, about 57,000 Brazilians die from preventable health conditions each year, mainly due to a lack of adherence to preventive healthcare requirements, including pre-natal consultations, vaccinations, chronic disease monitoring and cancer detection screenings. Depression is also a growing issue in Brazil, but specialised services are focused on treating severe cases, and Primary Health Care professionals and Basic Health Units are not prepared to address mild to moderate cases before they worsen.
The solution
ImpulsoGov offers municipal healthcare services a free solution that facilitates the preventative and follow-up work of front-line health workers. Their Previne platform utilises patients’ electronic medical records (EMR) from individual public primary healthcare units, combines with the national targets on seven preventable health conditions set by the Ministry of Health, and subsequently generates detailed lists of all citizens who must be contacted to schedule prevention and follow-up consultations.
The platform also provides analytics and tracking on the targets set for each condition, both at unit and municipal levels.
The insight
ImpulsoGov has directly supported over 150 Brazilian municipalities across more than 20 states. Internal evaluations indicate that over 50,000 chronic disease patients now receive regular follow-ups, tests, and exams compared to the control group. In groups where the direct messaging feature was used, cervical cancer screenings increased by 138% over 30 days compared to the control group. Additionally, with a new approach to mental health screening, we achieved a 50% reduction in depression symptoms among people benefiting from the initiative in two major cities.
ImpulsoGov plans to reach around 90 million citizens living in municipalities supported by its solutions by 2027 and cover all 5,568 municipalities within 5 years.
