The problem
According to the World Bank, 2.2 billion tonnes of waste was generated in 2020 globally. The addressable global market for waste management software was US$ 6.5 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach US$ 14.37 billion in 2030, out of which Latin America represents 10%. In Latin America, large corporations currently lack the awareness and resources to improve their waste management practices, the waste industry is fragmented and complex, and with ever-increasing waste production, these issues are compounding.
The solution
Recylink offers an online marketplace, where corporations (waste generators) can find and match with waste management companies. They facilitate this with the ultimate aim of enabling more sustainable practices and environmental benefits. The platform allows uploading of historical and current waste data, personalised analytics including weight, waste recovery rates (share of waste recycled, upcycled, composted) and CO2 equivalent savings, and offers educational content.
The insight
To date, Recylink’s ecosystem consists of over 900 organisations mostly located in Chile, with gradual expansion into Costa Rica, and recently Peru. The waste management software is adapted for companies from various industries, covering over 100 waste types, and 25 types of waste treatments.
In 2023, Recylink had facilitated 400 connections between ecosystem players, leading to over 320 tonnes of waste transacted on the platform, and over 107 tonnes of CO2 equivalent saved with their software.
